The Sakari Alhopuro Foundation promotes and supports high-quality medical research, multidisciplinary environmental research, biodiversity and environmental protection, cultural and social well-being in Finland, and economic education and entrepreneurism.

The Foundation provides grants and awards to commendable researchers and high-level projects. The grants for 2020 will be awarded to post doc researchers in the fields of medicine and the natural sciences.

Medical science

The Foundation specifically supports young doctors, so that they might have the opportunity to conduct research already during their studies and immediately after graduating. By awarding grants, the Foundation endeavours also to promote research in fields that are narrower in scope.

More research data is needed about the impacts of climate change on our planet’s future. The Foundation seeks to advance an understanding of the biodiversity of nature as a means of promoting a more sustainable use of our natural surroundings.

Entrepreneurship and companies are necessary to maintain the Finnish welfare society. The Foundation seeks to advance, among other things, entrepreneurship education and the understanding of the significance of entrepreneurship to the vitality of society.

Culture and Society

Art provides a medium through which to take a stand and get people talking about important social issues. The Foundation seeks to advance, in particular, the conditions that enable budding artists to progress in their careers.

The grants awarded by the Foundation in 2020 will be allocated to research that advances medical science and multidisciplinary environmental studies, biodiversity and environmental protection. The application period is 1–29 February 2020.
